Lesson 8 - Horizontal Pixel Art

For this lesson we looked at horizontal pixel art and were tasked with drawing a character from side on and then reducing down the scale to 100 pixels by 100 pixels. for this I decided to create a shovel knight style character.

So for this I drew the basic outline first and then scaled it down, once scaled down I then deleted and pixels that were doubled up so as the line remained one pixel thick. once this was done I went through some colours to see which I liked best for the design, it ended up as purple and green. the final stage for this was to add some shading to the armor and for this I added lighter tones near the edges of the armor and darker ones further in.

This will be useful for my game assets because I want a simplistic style of pixel art but one that makes the characters easily recognisable, by using this art style I can draw out the outline and minor details and then scale it down to a pixel art style. After this I could add extra detail, colour and shading if necessary.
